WHY FIRE DOORS MATTER

Fire doors are one of the most important, and most misunderstood, fire safety features in schools. Most of the time they look and function just like any other door. But in a fire they perform a life-saving role, stopping the spread of flames and smoke, protecting escape routes, and giving pupils and staff enough time to get out safely.
A fire door is far more than just a door. It is a carefully engineered fire safety system, tested to British and European standards. Every part works together:
- The door leaf
- The door frame
- Glass panels
- Intumescent and smoke seals
- Closers, hinges and latches
If any part is missing, damaged or replaced with the wrong item, the fire door may fail when it is needed most. Compartmentation is a property of the structure the door sits in, not of the door itself, but a failed door breaches it, letting fire and smoke accelerate into the space beyond.
WHY FIRE DOORS MATTER
